Electric Dreams: Iconic EVs in Cinema
Electric vehicles (EVs) aren’t just revolutionizing our roads—they’re making waves on the big screen too. From subtle cameos to high-octane chases, EVs are charging up the cinematic world. Let’s plug in and take a ride through some electrifying films that put EVs in the spotlight.
1. Red Notice (2021)
In this action packed comedy, Dwayne Johnson's Porsche Taycan is nearly as quick as Reynolds one liners. As it turns out getting in to a Porcshe Taycan when you're as big as the 'Rock' is a bit of a challenge. The Taycan might not go far but it was another statement in one of the biggest Netflix movies of 2021.
2. Iron Man 3 (2013)
When Tony Stark isn’t tinkering with suits or saving the world, he’s cruising in style. Enter the Audi e-tron R8, a sleek electric supercar that screams luxury and innovation—just like Stark himself. This wasn’t just product placement; it was a statement: the future is electric.
3. Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
Futuristic, dystopian, and filled with neon-lit skies, this film needed vehicles that matched its vibe. Enter EV-inspired Spinner cars that hover and glide through the rain-soaked streets of 2049. While fictional, these rides reflect a future where EVs dominate, blending tech and sustainability seamlessly.
4. Black Panther (2018)
The high-speed chase in Busan? It wasn’t just T’Challa’s suit taking the spotlight. That Lexus LC 500h, a hybrid-electric masterpiece, proved that Wakandan royalty drives nothing short of electrified excellence.
5. Who Killed the Electric Car? (2006)
Not fiction, but a gut-punch of a documentary. This film dives deep into the rise and fall of the GM EV1, one of the earliest mass-produced EVs. It’s a must-watch for anyone curious about the twists and turns of EV history.
6. The Other Guys (2010)
A buddy-cop comedy with an eco-friendly twist? Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg hilariously roll around in a Toyota Prius, affectionately (and mockingly) called “the most sensible car” ever. Turns out, practicality can be funny too. Whilst not a pure EV the Prius has made it in to so many films over the years we had to reference it here.
From sci-fi dreams to real-world practicality, EVs are no longer background players—they’re the stars of the show. As Hollywood continues to embrace sustainability, expect more EVs speeding, gliding, and zipping across your screens.
